We departed Locanda Il Maestrale at 10, bidding Giovanni goodbye. We enjoyed our last breakfast there, and were sad to leave. We walked through the village with our luggage, and met a cab at the village square to carry our luggage to the station for us. It was warm, but clouds were moving in
On the way to the cab we had time for one last peek into the church. We loved the striped stone walls, and the inside was very ornate for such a little town.

Inside the church. We said a little prayer to keep the beautiful Cinque Terre safe from pirates and floods. |
Our train to Genoa left the station at 10:55. Then between Genoa and Nice, the train came to a dead stop for about an hour due to some rocks on the tracks. It was Sunday, so the crew might have taken a bit longer to get there and clear the tracks. We thought it might have been a case of vandalism connected to the ongoing scheduled strike, but we were assured that the disgruntled employees of the rail system were unlikely to go to that extreme. Actually, the manager of our place in Nice said that the railway employees were too lazy to do anything like this, and we were thinking, thank goodness for that!
We were buying food and beverages from the bar, located in the next train car, since we didn't have any leftovers from our last place, it being a hotel. During the hour or so delay, the bartender kept going outside to check on the status of our stop, and maybe to have a cigarette too. He was a good source of up-to-the-minute info about the situation, and was questioned by all and sundry. Signore informazione, so to speak.

We finally arrived in Nice about 4 and took 2 cabs to the rental house. It’s a big, beautiful place on Mont Boron, and right on a major road with plenty of buses.
Villa Boron was a very nice, modern, two-story house. It had a great open living room, kitchen and dining room, so everyone could relax in the same area at the same time. An outdoor deck adjoined the living area. The five bedrooms were divided between the two floors, and oddly one bedroom had its private bathroom on a different floor.
The grocery stores were closed on Sunday afternoon, but we were able to order pizza, salad, wine and beer from the pizza place near us, and they delivered it. Thank goodness. So, we had a nice, relaxing evening, and had plenty of sustenance.

The weather wasn't looking that promising. Our great view let us see all of the clouds! We were staying here for 4 nights, so hoped we'd have some nice enough days to do some walking in the area. We read in the description of the house that Elton John and Sean Connery both live in the neighborhood, and we really wanted to see them.
